The Oakerhater Episcopal Center
Watonga, OK
TAP’s Principal of Design, Hans Butzer, designed the first permanent home for this 100 year old mission serving a Native American community. The facility will include worship space, a community center, retreat lodging and festival dance grounds within the 6,000 square foot complex. Butzer looked to the Native American respect for the land when selecting sustainable materials for the project. For example, the façade will be crafted from cedar trees discarded from local farmland and milled at a nearby lumber mill. The project has already been awarded a National CSR Award by the American Institute of Architects.
