Caleb McCaleb, founder of McCaleb Homes and a client of TAP ARCHITECTURE, reveals how Universal Design is impacting Residential Design and is on the rise in the homebuilding market. There has been a huge interest in accessibility-friendly homes lately with the idea that people want to live in their homes longer, and for some, into their old age. This comes after a time when the ideal time period to stay in a house, for a lot of people, was 5-7 years. With the economy today, people are thinking about building a home to grow old in, also with the idea that they will be able to stay in their home later in life, versus some kind of retirement facility. With this, comes the notion of accessibility and comfort and making life easier incase of a wheelchair or handicap due to age or illness. McCaleb said he's taken such elements into consideration in more than half of his homes in the Arbor Creek division inEdmond.

http://journalrecord.com/2012/04/26/universUniversal design reflects shift in homebuilding marketal-design-reflection-of-shift-in-homebuilding-market-real-estate/

McCaleb and TAP ARCHITECTURE use the same Universal Design concept when working with TAP on their most recent development together, Porches at Arbor Creek. A fusion of bungalow craftsmanship and contemporary lifestyle, Porches at Arbor Creek represents the highest level of amenity and completes the synthesis of tradition and innovation. Extraordinarily energy efficient, Porches at Arbor Creek emphasizes accessibility as well as fire suppression systems. With private rear yards and patios combined with the luxury of maintenance care-takers, Porches creates a homeowner experience that embraces the way people want to live today, as well as in their future.

John E. Ward, AIA, LEED AP of TAP ARCHITECTURE was pleased to report to the Little Axe School Board that bidding for the new Middle School was a stunning success. The new Middle School bid for $1,000,000 below budget. John reported that TAP ARCHITECTURE received bids from 16 well qualified contractors. Tony Smith, Superintendent for Little Axe Schools was delighted with the outcome which will allow funds for several important and much needed improvements.

The Little Axe School Board wasted little time and authorized a contract for construction between the school district and W. L. McNatt & Company. McNatt manned the site immediately and construction is underway.

Everyone in Little Axe, a district on the east edge of Norman, is looking forward to a June, 2013 completion and the 2013/2014 school year in their new building.

TAP ARCHITECTURE has been chosen to restore and make renovations to the jewel of St. Gregory's University, the majestic and historic Benedictine Hall. Located in the heart of campus, Benedictine Hall is a symbol of tradition and honor for the private Catholic University, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Having one of it's towers crumble to the ground, and the other three damaged during the 5.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked Shawnee November 5, 2011, the iconic Benedictine Hall relentlessly stood proud despite the damage. The team at TAP is honored to be working with such a great University, and excited to restore the monument to its full potential and former beauty.

News-Star, a newspaper in Shawnee, says “The history behind the Hall is one reason the university decided to go with TAP Architecture. The school considered three firms, all of which were qualified”, Greg Main, the University President of St Gregory’s said, “but TAP's knowledge and experience with historic preservation was the deciding factor.”

Main explains one of the deciding elements of the selection: "We just thought TAP had done the best job in terms of the proposal they made".

Coolgreens, a popular healthy dining establishment asked TAP ARCHITECTURE’s interior designers to make their restaurants even cooler. So…TAP set about selecting bright contemporary colors, finishes and designs to create a signature urban look for Coolgreen’s new restaurant in downtown Oklahoma City. Now the prototype is shining in a new Norman, Oklahoma location with another about to open in Edmond, Oklahoma. How cool is that?!?!?
